Ordinarily I would like using up all my mana with the Molten Birth, but in this case I’d rather play the card that might lose value later in the game, the Child of Night. We are given a choice of Molten Birth or Child of Night. This is great, we got the combat trick out of hand and made villain spend their entire turn doing it. We block, and villain has a Thunder Strike. Unless we think that we need to keep the Corpse Hauler for the long game, we should block here. Villain has indicated that they are alright with a trade (or trading with a combat trick from their hand), so if we attack next turn we will make the same trade, while allowing two extra damage in the process. Also, the fact that the Sentinel Sliver has vigilance means that we aren’t getting through next turn. With Shivan Dragon in hand, we just want to live until we draw enough lands to cast it. Villain plays a Plains and attacks with his Sentinel Sliver. We draw a Mountain, play a Swamp and then cast our Corpse Hauler. On Villain’s second turn we see a mountain and a Sentinel Sliver hit the table. On our turn we draw a Pitchburn Devils and play our Mountain. We’re going to need to hit lands, but we have our bomb, a two drop and both of our colors. This hand seems fine, especially on the draw. Villain keeps at seven and we decide whether or not to do the same. We lose the die roll and get put on the draw. Believe me, as much a headache as it causes you, it has been just as brutal on me. So we are on top for all of the games in round two. For the next round of games, MTGO has decided to save our games in reverse.
